A Toast to Turoff

Fred Turoff | Temple University Gymnastics Coach | 1976 – 2017

To All Temple Gymnastics Alum & Friends of Temple Gymnastics,

On Saturday, October 28th the retirement celebration for Fred will be held at the Hilton Hotel on City Line Ave. in Philadelphia from 6:30 to 10PM. The event will include dinner with a jazz duo, silent auction, and of course a roast of Fred. But it is really a celebration and commemoration of a remarkable coaching career and an opportunity to join in the revelry of a dedicated and passionate coach, teacher, and mentor. Stories and history will be shared and maybe even some new history learned. It is a story not just of gymnastics accomplishments of which there are many – both team and individual – but of experiences he provided that enriched the lives of so many because of his innate curiosity and the notion that there were things to see and learn about outside of the gym. Whether you were fortunate enough to be on a championship team, gain some individual honors, or be among those who rode the elevator to the top of the Sears Tower or walked the Golden Mile in Chicago, visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Pike’s Peak or the Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge, Meteor Crater, Coit Tower or Alcatraz, Ground Zero in NY or the Oklahoma City Memorial, hike Superstition Mountain in Arizona, drove Pacific 1 to Santa Barbara & lunched at Big Sur, rocked to the tunes of Bob Marley driving through San Francisco Park or just stared out at a bunch of big trees in Muir Woods you will know and understand what you experienced or acquired beyond your gymnastics skill and accomplishment thanks to Fred. And maybe you were among the lucky to see the morning press handstand! There will be time to share in the story of this Hall of Fame coach whose legacy at Temple and beyond is unmatched.
